Renowned Nigerian gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has officially addressed the ongoing legal battle with her former record label executive and music producer, Ezekiel ThankGod, widely recognized as Eezee Concept.
In a statement released on her Instagram page, Chinwo shared insights into her professional relationship with Eezee, which began when she initially worked as a background vocalist before securing a recording deal under his label.
Chinwo disclosed that in 2019, Eezee
proposed extending her initial five-year contract to a twelve-year agreement, a suggestion she turned down as it did not align with her career aspirations.
Following her refusal, she alleged that their professional relationship deteriorated, creating a toxic work environment. Chinwo claimed she was subjected to verbal and emotional abuse, with Eezee allegedly making statements such as, “I will deal with you, I will mess you up. I made you who you are, and I can silence you so no one hears from you again.”
As per her account, the tension intensified during the fourth year of her contract, with Eezee allegedly engaging in intimidation, isolation, and manipulation. She further accused him of providing misleading information regarding her availability for events, which affected her career.
However, Chinwo emphasized that her legal action is not about reclaiming her music catalog but about seeking transparency. She specifically demanded the release of the first three pages and the execution page of her 2017 contract, claiming that Eezee had made unauthorized alterations to the document.
In her public statement, she expressed her gratitude to God and her supporters, stating:
"All glory to God, whose grace and mercy have carried me through every challenge. I deeply appreciate everyone who has prayed for me and stood by me, even without hearing my side of the story. Your unwavering support has been a blessing."
She concluded her message with the hashtags #Justice and #TheTruthMustPrevail.
